Day 1
Hometown Beijing
Starting your tour by taking flight to Beijing. Cross the International Date Line. Lose one day on the road.
Day 2
Arrive Beijing
Arrive in Beijing, the capital city of China. Your tour guide will greet you at the airport arrival hall and then transfer to your deluxe hotel for a good night`s rest.
Day 3
Beijing (B, L, D)
Beijing served as the capital of 5 dynasties over a period of 800 years. Start your city tour with a visit to the Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world. Next stop is the Forbidden City. This complex, the largest and most intact conglomeration of ancient structures of the imperial palace ever built in the world, features more than 800 buildings with 9999 rooms, resplendent golden-glazed roofs, red lacquered pillars and vermilion walls. In the afternoon, continue your tour to the Temple of Heaven, which was used by Emperors to offer sacrifices to heaven and pray for good harvest in ancient times. In the evening, enjoy a fabulous Peking Roast Duck Banquet. Back to hotel for rest or attend an optional energetic show-- "Legend of Kung-fu" at your own expense.
Day 4
Beijing (B, L, D)
This morning, you`ll also have an opportunity to shop at the largest Jade Center of Asia. The highlight today is a trip to the astonishing Great Wall at Juyongguan Pass. More than 12,000 Kilometers in total, the Great Wall is the most famous image of China throughout the world. It is the only manmade object visible from the moon, and as one of the Eight Wonders of the world, it is also a symbol of Chinese traditional culture and the pride of the Chinese nationality. After lunch, see skilled artisans at work at a Cloisonne Factory. Then take motor coach to the Ming Tombs and visit the Changling Exhibition Hall. Back to city, walk along the New Qianmen Street and have a outside view of the beautiful Bird`s Nets and Water Cube up close. After dinner, cap off the day by attending a superb performance of Chinese Acrobatic Show.
Day 5
Beijing (B, L)
In the morning tour to the exquisite Summer Palace (Imperial Garden), the largest ancient preserved garden in China and a former summer resort for Emperors and the chosen few, with a boat ride on Lake Kunming (weather permitting). A shopping visit to a Silk Carpet Shop followed by lunch. You`ll have your afternoon free to explore the city by yourself. You may choose to join our optional Experience the Hutong Life Tour: a special journey exploring the ancient Beijing Alley District by a pedi-cab, plus a visit to a local family and a local market; or just pace yourself in the Wang-fu-jing Business Street, also called Gold Street. With hundreds year of history, it is the best place to capture the historical and modern cultures of Beijing. Today`s dinner will be on your own.
Day 6
Beijing Lhasa (B, L, D)
In the morning, fly to Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet via Chengdu. Upon arrival, transfer and check into your hotel. Elevates over 12,000 ft. and with very thin air, it may cause your bodies to manifest some signs of altitude sickness. To acclimate your bodies, no activities have been scheduled for the rest of the day. It is our advise not going out and just rest up indoors.
Day 7
Lhasa (B, L, D)
Your first day city tour in Lhasa starts by visiting the Norbulingka, which used to be the summer residence of Dalai Lama. Continue to visit one of Tibet`s holiest shrines, the 1300-year-old Jokhang Temple, where pilgrims worship before the statue of the Sakyamuni Buddha, lavishly enthroned in gold and a gift from the Tang Dynasty of China.
Visit a Tibetan`s home in the afternoon, taste Tibetan homemade foods and enjoy the Tibetan Dancing and Singing performance in the evening.
Day 8
Lhasa (B, L, D)
A memorable tour this morning is to visit the spectacular Potala Palace. Built in the 17th century, it took 7,000 workers and 1,500 artists and craftsmen more than 50 years to build the adjoining White and Red Palaces. It is the largest lamasery of its type in the world. Surrounding Potala Palace is Barkhor Street, meaning "eight corners street." Descend the palace to walk on this street which offers us a window into Tibetan culture and allows us an opportunity to buy colorful ethnic handicrafts rarely seen outside of Tibet. Visit Sera Monastery in the afternoon. You`ll have a chance to see group of red-robed young monks debate Buddhist doctrines in lively traditional style.
Day 9
Lhasa Chongqing (B, L, D)
In the morning, fly from Lhasa to Chongqing. Transfer and check into hotel upon arrival for a refreshment. Chongqing is the largest industrial and commercial city in Sichuan Province. During the Second World War, it was the headquarter for Chiang Kai-Shek and his nationalist government and also the base for the Flying Tigers who made their historic flights over the "Hump" (the Himalayan Mountain Range) to Burma. Visit the Panda House in the afternoon and then visit the General Stilwell Museum. Enjoy famous Chongqing Hot Pot dinner before boarding the East King Cruise to begin your highly anticipated grand Yangtze River adventure.
Day 10
Yangtze River Cruise (B, L, D)
Our cruise set sail from Chongqing in the morning. The first shore excursion of our cruise will occurs at one of two places depending on local river conditions: Fengdu or Wanzhou Relocation Villages. Fengdu, also called "Ghost City", is a peculiar site that is accessed via cable car. It contains numerous statues of devils and ghosts that roam the afterworld. Wanzhou Relocation Villages were formed due to the New Three Gorges Dam Project. Shore excursion to the village includes a visit to the Hope Elementary School.
Day 11
Yangtze River Cruise (B, L, D)
Enter the exciting part of your cruise journey, the famous Three Gorges. The ship sails through Qutang Gorge, the shortest, narrowest but most dramatic one of the Three Gorges. Next we pass through Wu Gorge, which is famous for its quiet beauty. Disembark at Wushan where you`ll board small riverboat for a leisurely ride through Shennong Stream, which offers clear running waters, picturesque rock formations, and even monkeys and goat along its banks. Reboard the cruise ship and then sails through Xiling Gorge, the longest one of the Three Gorges in the afternoon, and will pass through the ship-lock of the new three gorges dam.
Day 12
Yangtze River Cruise/ Yichang Xian (B,L,D)
The cruise ship will stop at Taipingxi (or Sandouping) in the morning. Disembark to visit the massive Three Gorges Dam Project, which is the world`s largest dam, measuring 606 feet high and 6,500 feet long. In 1997, the cofferdam was completed and the main structure begun. The dam has two five-stage locks to raise and lower ships to the different river levels. Each lock in the five stages is 65 feet high and 910 feet long. The cruise ship arrives in Yichang city, the destination of your cruise journey. Transfer to airport by motor coach and then fly to Xi`an. Xi`an was the first Chinese city opening up its doors to the world during the Tang Dynasty. Over a period of more than 2000 years, Xian was the capital for eleven dynasties. Enjoy the special local Imperial Dumpling Banquet Dinner and the traditional Tang Dynasty Singing and Dancing Show in the evening.
Day 13
Xi`an (B, L, D)
This morning, visit the UNESCO World Heritage site, he Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses Museum, sightseeing the attached life-sized defending army to the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang. It is regarded as "the eighth wonder of the world" and among the top archaeological excavations of the 20th century. Visit an Art Ceramics Factory before you enjoy a local special noodle lunch and watch Noodle Making Performance. Continue your tour to visit the Shanxi Provincial Historical Museum in the afternoon. Your final stop is to visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the symbol of the city. It is said to have been built to house and protect Buddhist scriptures collected by the Chinese monk, Xuan Zang, the key figure in «Journey to the West».
Day 14
Xi`an Shanghai (B, L, D)
Finish up your city tour in Xi`an with a visit to the Ancient City Wall which is not only the most complete city wall that has survived in China, but also one of the largest and most complete ancient military defense systems in the world. Then fly to Shanghai, the modern metropolis and commercial center of China. Your half day city tour starts by walking along the famous Bund, a mile-long stretch along the Huangpu River. Lined by the colonial architectures of European design, this area is the best place to capture the western influences of the old days. Continue to visit the Ming Dynasty Yuyuan Garden which is considered to be one of four greatest Chinese gardens. Our final stop will be the bustling shopping district, Nanjing Road. After dinner you may take optional tour, the Night Cruise on the Huangpu River at your own expense.
Day 15
Shanghai (B, L)
After breakfast, visit the Shanghai Museum to see the ancient Chinese art, furniture and jade. After ample time admiring the numerous exhibits, you`ll be given an opportunity to shop for the highest quality Silk Goods. This afternoon, we`ll leave it free for you at leisure. You may take the time to do some last minute souvenir and gift shopping or explore this city on your own.
Day 16
Shanghai Hometown (B)
Your China journey is over all too soon as we transfer to the airport and board the homebound international flight, bidding a fond farewell to this ancient land. We know the trip is over, yet the experiences and memories will certainly last for a life time. You`ll get home the same day you leave China.
