city of Liaoyuan sprawls along the banks of the Dongliao River in the
central south of Jilin Province. It has an area of 5,000 square kilometers
and a population of 1.16 million. Liaoyuan, known as "Lesser Shanghai,"
has well-developed electronic, building material, and machine-building
industries. It was an imperial hunting ground during the Cling Dynasty.
The city is a coal mining center., and coal has been excavated almost
for 100 years there. It is also a national production base of commodity
grain, producing maize, sorghum, soybean, and paddy rice Liaoyuan is
well-developed in livestock breeding. It leads other parts of China
in the amount of sika deer on hand. |
