| Also named Wanbuhuayanjing Pagoda, the White
Pagoda stands in the eastern suburbs, 18 kilometers from Hohhot. Originally
a pagoda to enshirne Buddhist scriptures in a monastery of Fengzhou
in the Liao Dynasty (916-1125), it is a wooden and brick structure,
55.5 meters tall with seven stories. Vivid and elegantly-shaped Buddhist
statues and dragon pillars were carved on the pagoda. On the inside
wall are inscriptions in various languages, recording in details the
history of Fengzhou. In 1982, the pagoda was listed as one of the relics
under the State protection by the State Council. |
