Zhangjiajie

A snow scene at ZhangjiajieZhangjiajie is in the northwest of Hunan Province, about 400 km away trom Changsha. Composed of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the Tianri Mountain and the Suoxiyu Valley, the prefecture has a total area of 369 square km. It is a scenic area made up of sandstone from the primitive ecological system and the forest coverage rate reaches 97.7 percent. In 1992, it was inscribed in the list of in the World Natural Heritage by UNESCO. Major scenic spots are the Huangshizhai, the Jinbian Brook, the Tianzi Mountain, the Huanglong Cave, the Baofeng Lake and the Maoyan River.

Huangshizhai
This place is a high-south, low-north terrace composed of many cliffs in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. The top consists of more than 20 hectares, with over 10 scene viewing platforms from where one can enjoy majestic sandstone peak forests.

Jinbian Brook
Also located in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, it extends 6 km from north to south, winding across mountains and valleys. The brook is limpid through the year, with stone peaks standing erect on both banks.

Mount Tianzi
It covers an area of 100 square km. The highest peak is Tianzi Peak which has an elevation of 1,262.5 meters. Taking in the view there, one can see solitary and clustering mountains among the clouds mid mist.

Huanglong Cave
An underground karst cave in the northeast of Suoxiyu Valley, it is about 15 km deep and covers 20 hectares.
